Lord,
You see the choices we made when there were no safe options.
Forgive the judgments spoken against those who stayed to protect others.
Cover us with Your truth and peace.
In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Day’s Journey — Micro Devotional
Scripture Sidebar
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.”
—John 15:13
Reflection
There were times I had to intervene—
and times I had to stop the intervention.
Not because I was defending the abuser,
but because I was protecting the abused.
Children sometimes endure abuse to keep their siblings together.
Separation can be worse.
Foster care, displacement, and further harm are real risks.
Adults stay for similar reasons.
To protect a stepchild.
A grandchild.
Someone more vulnerable than themselves.
They stand as shields, absorbing harm so others might survive.
This is not a weakness.
This is not compliance.
This is costly Love in a broken system.
God sees the heart behind survival decisions—
especially when there were no good choices, only the least harmful ones.
Sacred Pause
Breathe in compassion.
Release shame.
Say gently:
“God sees why I stayed.”
Prayer
Righteous Father,
Heal those who stayed to protect the vulnerable. Remove false guilt and misplaced blame.
Cover us with Your mercy and truth. Shield them with Your divine protection,
in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
