Day’s Journey Youth: The Voice of Truth

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

There are times when a young person looks in the mirror and does not like what they see.

There are times when words do not come out right.
Times when they feel slow, awkward, or misunderstood.
Times when old voices rise up—words someone once said that cut deep and stayed.

Maybe someone called you stupid.
Maybe someone mocked you.
Maybe someone made you feel small, like you were not enough.

That is what hurtful words can do.
They do not just pass by.
They settle into the heart and try to define who we are.

But those voices are not the truth.

The truth is what God says.

“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” —Psalm 139

That means you were created on purpose.
You were formed with care.
You are known fully by God, even in the places others misunderstood or rejected.

David understood this. He knew what it felt like to be overlooked and rejected. Yet in the middle of all that, he spoke something powerful over his own life: God made me. God knows me. God sees me.

Psalm 139 is like a song God sings over the wounded soul.
It reminds us that we are not what others call us.
We are who God says we are.

And God does not make mistakes.

So when your words feel tangled,
when your thoughts feel heavy,
when the mirror feels unkind,
pause.

Take a breath.

And say:

I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Not because you feel it perfectly,
But because it is true.

Sacred Pause

What words have you believed about yourself that do not sound like God?

Can you bring those words to Him and replace them with truth?

A prayer for youth

Lord Jesus,
Forgive me for believing the hurtful words spoken over me. Forgive me for agreeing with shame and thinking less of myself than You do. Heal the places in my heart that were wounded by rejection and unkind words.

Help me hear Your voice louder than every other voice. Remind me that I am fearfully and wonderfully made. When I struggle, when I feel misunderstood, or when I feel not good enough, help me stand in Your truth.

Thank You for knowing me, loving me, and creating me on purpose.

In Jesus’ Name, amen.

God’s truth is stronger than every voice that tried to break you.
