Day’s Journey Reflection
Before You Sign the Agreement
Lord Jesus, search our hearts. Teach us to live in agreement with You—not only with our words, but with justice, mercy, humility, and truth. Amen.
Before starting a job, leasing an apartment, buying a house, receiving medical attention, or entering just about any agreement, there is usually a contract.
Even websites have agreements we must accept before moving forward.
If we do not agree with what is being offered, we do not sign it. We move on. No judgment. No condemnation. We choose whether or not we are willing to live under the terms of that agreement. The Bible aligns with God’s statutes; we may agree or disagree, but God will not be mocked. Some want the blessings of God, but do not want to follow His commands.
There are times when a contract contains injustice. In those moments, speaking up can be good—especially when the change protects others and glorifies God.
The LORD tells His people to speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves. He calls us to act justly, Love mercy, and walk humbly with Him.
Micah 6 carries this same message.
But before the well-known verse comes, the LORD brings His case before the mountains. He tells Micah to plead His case and let the hills hear His complaint.
God, the Creator of the universe, does not need to defend Himself as though He has done wrong. Yet in His mercy, He calls His people to remember.
He reminds them that He brought them out of slavery. He redeemed them from bondage.
He led them with mercy. He showed them His righteous acts.
The LORD says, in essence, Remember your journey. Remember what I have done. Remember how I carried you.
Then He makes it clear: He is not appeased by outward sacrifices while the heart remains far from Him.
He does not desire religious performance without righteousness.
He does not desire offerings without obedience.
He does not desire worship that ignores injustice.
He does not desire a sacrifice that covers dishonest living.
The LORD has already shown His people what is good. He says My words are on their lips, but their hearts are far from Me. Some recite God’s words as a magic potion, as though God is waiting to serve them.
To act justly. To Love mercy. To walk humbly with God.
This is not a shallow agreement.
This is a covenant.
If we claim to belong to the LORD, then our lives must come into agreement with His ways. We cannot use His Name while refusing His character. We cannot pray for relief from the consequences of sin while clinging to the very sin destroying us.
God cannot be mocked.
He will not bless dishonest scales. He will not excuse false weights.
He will not turn away from ill-gotten gain.
He will not ignore those who use His Word deceitfully.
He will not overlook the violent taking from people with low incomes.
This word is not first directed at those who make no claim to belong to God. Their sins are already destroying them.
This is a warning to those who say, “We are the LORD’s people,” while continuing to walk in rebellion, greed, deceit, pride, and injustice.
The LORD is not asking for more religious noise.
He is calling for repentance.
Lay down the dishonest gain. Lay down the false scales.
Lay down the deceitful tongue. Lay down the violence.
Lay down the pride. Lay down the appearance of godliness without obedience.
Return to the One who brought you out of slavery.
Return to justice. Return to mercy. Return to humility. Return to truth.
To fear the LORD’s Name is wisdom.
Some contracts need to be notarized. We find someone who is a Notary, they write our names in a book, we sign, they sign as witnesses, and they stamp it. It is sealed and constitutes a binding contract. The Bible says what we bind on earth is bound in heaven. Wisdom teaches us that agreement with God is not signed with ink. It is lived through repentance, obedience, and Love. When we sign the agreement with God, the contract is stamped with the BLOOD OF JESUS, and sealed with THE HOLY SPIRIT.
Sacred Pause
Am I living in agreement with God, or only speaking His Name?
Where have I offered outward sacrifice while avoiding inward repentance?
Do my actions reflect justice, mercy, humility, and truth?
Prayer of Repentance
Father God,
Forgive us for the times we have tried to appease You with outward sacrifices while our hearts remained far from You.
Forgive us for using Your Name while refusing Your ways. Forgive us for injustice, dishonesty, pride, greed, deceit, and indifference toward the poor, the oppressed, the widow, the orphan, and those who cannot speak for themselves.
Forgive us for asking You to relieve the consequences of sin while we continue clinging to the sin itself.
Search our hearts, LORD. Expose every false weight and dishonest scale within us. Cleanse our motives. Purify our worship. Teach us to act justly, Love mercy, and walk humbly with You.
Help us live in true agreement with Your covenant.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus,
You are righteous, merciful, holy, and true. Teach us to remember how You brought us out of bondage. Let us not forget Your mercy, Your rescue, and Your righteous acts.
Make us a people who do what is right in Your sight. Let our faith be more than words. Let our worship be more than songs. Let our prayers be joined with repentance, obedience, justice, mercy, and humility.
May our lives proclaim that we belong to You.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
Closing Line
God does not ask us to sign an agreement with religious words;
He calls us to live in covenant with justice, mercy, humility, and truth.
Soli Deo Gloria
