Children’s Day Journey Reflection
Memory Verse:
“The fruit of the Spirit is Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.”
— Galatians 5:22–23
Joshua the spotted fawn sat alone at the picnic table near the meadow pond.
The table was covered with a red-and-white cloth, but Joshua did not feel very hungry. His little hooves rested quietly on the bench, and his soft brown eyes looked down at the empty place beside him.

He missed his Momma.
He missed the way she made meals feel special.
He missed the way she washed fruit in a little bowl.
He missed the way she saved the sweetest pieces for others.
He missed the way she said, “Food tastes better when Love is shared.”
Joshua remembered helping her pick the perfect fruit; she taught him about the fruit of the Spirit. As they placed them in the basket, she named each one,
“Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control!”
She would let him place berries in a basket, one by one. Sometimes he would sneak one into his mouth, and she would smile.
“Joshua,” she would say gently, “when we share what we have, joy grows in our hearts too.”
Joshua did not understand that at first.
He thought sharing meant losing something.
If he gave away an apple, then he would have one less apple.
If he gave away berries, then he would have fewer berries.
If he gave away bread, then he would have less for himself.

But his Momma taught him that Love does not work that way.
When Love shares, joy grows.
Joshua wiped one little tear from his cheek.
From the pond, Hippii the Hippo noticed him.

Hippii lifted his head from the water and blinked kindly. “Joshua looks lonely,” he said.
Joppa the Ostrich turned her long neck. Millo, the little blue bird, fluttered on her shoulder. Mahle the spotted lamb looked toward the picnic table, and Wally the Warthog held tightly to a basket full of fruit.
Rafi-Owl watched from the tree branch above.
“Maybe he needs extra kindness Today,” said Rafi-Owl.
Wally looked down at the basket. It was filled with apples, oranges, grapes, strawberries, bananas, and little sweet berries.
“I brought fruit,” Wally said. “Maybe we can share it with him.”
Mahle smiled softly. “The fruit of the Spirit?”
Millo chirped, “Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control!”
Joppa nodded. “Then let us carry fruit in our basket and fruit in our hearts.”
So the gang walked gently toward Joshua.

Hippii came out of the pond with little drops of water shining on his back. Joppa stepped carefully through the flowers. Mahle walked beside Wally. Millo fluttered above them. Rafi-Owl flew quietly from branch to branch.
Joshua looked up as they came near.
“May we sit with you?” Joppa asked.
Joshua’s ears lifted a little. “With me?”
“With you,” said Mahle.

Wally placed the basket on the picnic table. “We brought fruit to share.”
Joshua looked at the apples and berries. His heart squeezed a little.
“My momma used to teach me how to share meals,” he whispered.
The gang grew quiet.
Hippii rested his chin near the edge of the table. “Do you miss her Today?”
Joshua nodded.
“She said sharing brings joy to the heart of the one who shares.”
Joppa’s eyes softened. “Your momma taught you something beautiful.”
Rafi-Owl nodded wisely. “Sometimes the little things we were taught become seeds of Love inside us.”

Joshua looked at the basket.
“I thought sharing meant having less,” he said. “But Momma said when we share with Love, our hearts do not become empty. They become full.”
Wally picked up a shiny red apple and handed it to Joshua. “Would you like to share first?”
Joshua held the apple carefully.
He looked at Mahle. Then he broke a small piece of fruit bread and gave it to him.
“For you,” Joshua said.
Mahle smiled. “Thank you, Joshua.”
Then Joshua gave berries to Millo, grapes to Joppa, an orange slice to Hippii, and an apple to Wally. Rafi-Owl received a tiny berry and bowed his wise head.

With each piece Joshua shared, something gentle happened.
The sadness did not disappear all at once.
He still missed his Momma.
His heart still felt tender.
But joy began to peek through.
Like sunlight between leaves.
Like flowers after rain.
Like a song returning softly.
Joshua smiled.
“I think Momma was right,” he said.
“What did she say?” asked Millo.
Joshua looked at his friends gathered around the table.
“She said food tastes better when Love is shared.”

Just then, the Lion walked into the meadow.
His mane glowed in the sunlight, and His eyes were full of Love. He came near the picnic table and sat beside Joshua.
“Joshua,” the Lion said gently, “when you share the Love your momma planted in you, her lessons keep bearing fruit.”
Joshua leaned close to the Lion.
“So missing her can still become love?” he asked.
“Yes,” said the Lion. “Grief can remind your heart what mattered. And Love can help you share what she taught you.”
Joshua looked at the basket again.
It was not as full as before, but the table felt full.
Full of friends.
Full of kindness.
Full of memories.
Full of Love.
Full of joy.
The fruit had been shared, but the joy had grown.
And Joshua understood something beautiful:
The little things his Momma taught him were not gone.

They were still alive in him.
Every time he shared.
Every time he welcomed someone.
Every time he brought kindness to the table.
The Love remained.
Little Lesson
Sometimes we miss someone we Love.
We may miss the little things they taught us: how to cook, how to pray, how to share, how to laugh, how to care for others.
Those little things matter.
When we share what they taught us, Love keeps growing.
Sharing not only blesses the person who receives. Sharing can also bring joy to the heart of the one who gives.
That is part of the fruit of the Spirit.
Love shares.
Joy grows.
Peace settles.
Kindness makes room.
Goodness gives.
Gentleness comforts.
And Jesus sits with us at the table.
Reflection Question
What is one little thing someone you Love has taught you?
How can you share that Love with someone else Today?
Prayer of Repentance, Comfort, and Joy
Dear Jesus,
Thank You for loving me when my heart feels tender.
Thank You for the people who have taught me little things that matter. Thank You for the meals shared, the kindness given, the prayers prayed, and the memories that still bring Love to my heart.
Please forgive me for the times I have kept my Love to myself because I was sad, afraid, or lonely. Forgive me for thinking I had nothing to give.
Help me share with joy.
When I miss someone I Love, comfort me. Remind me that Love is not gone. Teach me how to carry the good things they planted in me and share them with others.
Holy Spirit, grow Your fruit in my heart: Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Let my table become a place of kindness.
Let my basket become a gift of Love.
Let my heart remember that sharing can bring joy.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
