Day’s Journey—Today
The Light of My Heart Is On
By Lisa Rene Delgado
“Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning.” —Luke 12:35, KJV.
Opening Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me live Today with a heart awake to Your will and Your Love. Guide my work, bless my rest, and teach me to welcome others while I wait for Your return. Amen.
Jesus said to be ready for His return.
As I consider His words, I picture a home being tended with Love. A meal is prepared. The table is set. A light shines through the window.
A wife waits for the return of her beloved in expectation.
That is how I want to live.
I have shared meals and made room at the table. I have worked to put my life in order, bringing the unfinished places before the Lord. Like a wife anticipating her husband’s homecoming, I continue to wait with the Light of His Love in my heart.
LORD, You are the True Light. Take notice of those with flickering hope with lovingkindness, mercy, and compassion. Let Your Kingdom come, and Your will be done in us, and on Earth as it is in heaven, to God be the Glory.
Scripture gives us this language of belonging and expectancy. Scripture pictures God’s people together as a bride preparing for the marriage supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:7–9). Jesus also describes servants keeping their lamps burning, ready to welcome their master home (Luke 12:35–40).
These pictures invite me to consider how I am living Today.
Holy Spirit, keep the lamp in our hearts burning with holy fire, cleansing and purifying until the LORD’S return.
Am I making room for the people He places before me? Am I willing to forgive, receive correction, and offer kindness? Does the way I care for my home and my neighbor reflect the One I am waiting for?
Readiness takes shape in ordinary moments.
An extra place at the table.
An apology offered sincerely.
A promise kept.
A quiet prayer before answering.
A weary person welcomed with patience.
Even the hidden work matters: surrendering resentment, asking for wisdom, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our response.
Some days, however, the dishes remain in the sink. The body needs rest. Grief comes to sit beside some, and the house is quieter than expected. That does not mean He is not near.
Jesus knows those days, too.
Holy Spirit, don’t let the enemy snuff out the burning coals within me; fan the flames in my heart, and give me strength to do God’s will.
His welcome does not depend on a spotless house or an uninterrupted record of accomplishment. Through grace, He teaches us to live faithfully with the strength He gives; yet I can leave a task unfinished and still turn my heart toward Him.
You can weep and still hope. You can rest in His Love while awaiting His return.
A beautiful tenderness comes in the passage from Luke. When the master finds his servants watching, he seats them at the table and serves them (Luke 12:37). As I think about preparing a welcome for Jesus, I remember His own generous care for those who belong to Him.
The One I await sustains me while I wait.
So Today, I will tend to what He has entrusted to me. I will share what I can. I will bring Him the rooms of my heart that still need His healing and light.
And when evening comes, I will rest with this prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are welcome here.
Sacred Pause
Picture a lamp glowing in a quiet window.
What is one way you can express your Love for Jesus Today?
Perhaps it is an act of hospitality, a needed apology, a faithful task, or accepting the rest He offers.
Let your response begin with prayer.
Prayer of Repentance and Readiness
Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have allowed distraction, resentment, or pride to crowd my heart. Help me put right what I can and surrender what I cannot control.
Keep my Love attentive. Make me generous with the welcome I have received from You. Give me wisdom to work faithfully and humility to rest when I am weary.
As Your people await Your return, teach us to care for one another with mercy and hope.
The light of my heart is on, Lord. Help me walk in Your light Today.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
Soli Deo Gloria.
