Opening Prayer:

Lord, thank You that when we are weary, You don’t condemn us — You comfort us. When we collapse under the weight of fear or fatigue, You come with bread for our souls and water for our hearts. Teach us to rest when You call us to rest, and to rise when You call us to rise in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.

Scripture:

“Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep. All at once an angel touched him and said, ‘Get up and eat.’” — 1 Kings 19:5

Reflection:

After Elijah fled into the wilderness, overwhelmed by fear and exhaustion, he sat under a broom tree and prayed that he might die. But instead of rebuking him, God sent an angel — not with judgment, but with nourishment. “Get up and eat,” the angel said, and beside him was bread baked over hot coals and a jar of water.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is rest. God understands the toll of battle — emotional, spiritual, and physical. Before Elijah could continue his mission, he needed restoration. The angel fed him twice, and with that strength, Elijah walked forty days to the mountain of God.

I’ve had those broom tree moments — times when I’ve poured out everything I had for others and felt too weary to go on. But even then, God has sent reminders of His care: a word in season, a quiet morning, a child’s smile, a co-worker who sees you need a break, and says, “I am here for you, go, rest for a minute,” or a Scripture that breathes new life into my soul.

God still sends His angels — sometimes through people, sometimes through peace, always through love. His message is the same: “Arise and eat, for the journey is too great for you.”

Prayer:

LORD, thank You for the angels You send in moments of weakness — for every unseen mercy that restores my strength. Help me to rest in Your provision and rise again in Your power.

Sacred Pause:

Take a deep breath. Feel His nearness. The same God who fed Elijah feeds your soul today — with His Word, His Spirit, and His peace.

Journal Prompt:

What “broom tree” moments have you experienced? How did God strengthen you and remind you that the journey is not over?
