Freedom from the Sin of Unforgiving: Jesus Between You and Judgment

After the death of my son, everything seemed to go darker than the night. I sat alone, in shock; I couldn’t process what was happening around me. I saw, behind the mask, a coldness I recognized: the secrets hidden, familiar faces from the past. There was a heaviness in the atmosphere, but I couldn’t explain it in words. I knew something wasn’t right. My intuition was screaming for answers, but I got stones instead.

Let’s unpack this moment slowly, reverently—
as though we are walking barefoot on sacred ground.

When Jesus Stands Between You and the Stones

You imagined Jesus stepping between you and the crowd—
the crowd who had opinions, judgments, gossip, dismissals, and lies.
They held stones, not always in their hands,  but in their words, their silence,
their assumptions, their accusations.

And instead of letting those stones reach your heart,
Jesus bent down.

Just like He did with the woman caught in the act,
frightened and surrounded.

But this time…
He wrote their names.

Not their sins.
Not their accusations.
Not your faults.

He wrote their names.

What does that mean?

It means:

He sees them.
He knows them.
He knows why they act as they do.
He knows their secrets.
He knows their motives.
He knows their stories.
And He knows the truth that lies beneath every lie told about you.

And yet—
He does not expose them with cruelty.
He does not shame them publicly.
He does not retaliate through humiliation.

He writes
in quiet authority,
in unshakable calm.

And one by one…
the stones fall to the ground.

Not because you defended yourself.
Not because you argued.
Not because you proved your innocence.
Not because anyone finally “understood you.”

But because Jesus stood up for you without a single spoken word.

Sacred Pause: Jesus Writing in the Dust

Close your eyes if you can.
Return gently to that scene.

You are there.
Your heart is bare and trembling.
The circle is tight.
The judgment is thick.
You can feel stones in hands and stones in hearts.

But Jesus steps forward.

He shields you with His presence.

He kneels.

He touches the ground—
the ground that has felt your tears,
the ground of your lowest moments.

And He begins to write.

Let yourself imagine:

  • the slow movement of His finger
  • the absolute peace in His posture
  • the silence that falls over the crowd
  • the weight of their stones is shifting
  • the truth is entering the atmosphere like breath

He writes one name…
then another…
then another.

With each name written,
the stones grow heavier in their hands—
too heavy to grip,
too heavy to hide behind.

One by one…
They drop to the ground.

You do not have to pick them up.
You do not have to explain yourself.
You do not have to defend your grief.
You do not have to return the pain.

Because Jesus stands between you and every stone.

Scripture Reflection

John 8:6–7

“Jesus bent down and wrote with His finger on the ground…
Let the one who is without sin cast the first stone.”

Isaiah 54:17

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper,
and every tongue that rises against you in judgment
you shall condemn.”

Not with your voice—
with His.

Psalm 34:5–7

“Those who look to Him are radiant…
The LORD encamps around those who fear Him
and delivers them.”

You are encircled,
but not by accusers—
by angels.

Colossians 1:20

“…making peace through the blood of His cross.”

This peace covers even the ruins others caused.
Even the stones others threw.

A Whisper from His Heart to Yours

“Beloved,”
You do not need to fear their stones.
I stand between you and every accusation.
I know the truth.
I know your heart.
I know your sorrow.
I will not let their words destroy you.
Rest behind Me.
I am your shield.”
