When Joy Walks into the Room
Jesus… my Salvation, my Joy, my Peace.
Scripture Anchors:
- “Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid.” — Isaiah 12:2
- “With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” — Isaiah 12:3
- “The joy of the LORD is your strength.” — Nehemiah 8:10
- “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” — Psalm 30:5
There was a day I will never forget—
a day when sorrow pressed in on all sides
and joy felt like something meant for other people.
I went to visit a friend with cancer.
I expected a quiet room, low lights,
and the heaviness that illness often brings.
Instead, I stepped into radiance—
her face alive with joy,
her spirit bright,
as though heaven itself were sitting beside her bed.
Her laughter caught me off guard.
Her peace seemed impossible.
Her joy was startling—
a kind of strength I did not understand.
And I…
I was angry.
I was exhausted.
My own life felt like a storm I could not outrun.
I had just come out of the hospital myself—
ninety pounds from hyperthyroidism,
weak, shaking, overwhelmed.
My ex-husband refused to work,
and I was carrying the entire household
on a body that was breaking.
There was no money for medicine.
No food in the kitchen.
And worse, a cold indifference
from relatives and some family members
who should have cared.
I felt invisible.
Forgotten.
Abandoned in my suffering.
Yet here was my friend,
facing cancer,
full of joy.
And her joy was contagious.
It flowed over me like warm light,
softening the sharp edges of my pain.
By the end of our visit,
I—who had arrived angry and empty—
found myself singing praises to the LORD.
Not because anything in my life had changed,
but because His joy had changed me.
Sometimes we must face our truth—
the heaviness we’re carrying,
the disappointment we can’t voice,
the pain we’ve tried to bury—
because THAT is where
the joy of the LORD intercedes
and gives us strength.
It is not a joy we earn.
Not a joy we create.
Not a joy rooted in circumstances.
It is a joy born from the presence of Jesus—
the One who is
our Salvation,
our Joy,
our Peace.
And so I whisper even now,
as I did that day—
Jesus… my Salvation,
my Joy,
my Peace.

SACRED PAUSE
“With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.” — Isaiah 12:3
Pause here.
Place your hand over your heart.
Feel it beating—
a reminder that God is sustaining you
even in the places that feel barren.
Breathe in slowly,
and as you exhale, whisper His name:
“Jesus… my Salvation… my Joy… my Peace.”
Let this truth rise within you:
You do not have to create your own joy.
You only need to come thirsty.
The well is already overflowing.
The water is living.
The gift is free.
Stay here for a moment—
long enough to let joy touch the place
you’ve tried to carry alone.
