Post 2 — Why Gaslighting Works

Scripture Sidebar

“The devil… is a liar and the father of lies.”
—John 8:44

Reflection

An Octopus releases ink to confuse predators—and then escapes while others are disoriented.

Abusive people do something similar.
They twist words.
They deny what happened.
They accuse you of what they are doing.

This is called gaslighting.

Gaslighting makes you feel like the problem, even when you are responding normally to mistreatment from anyone, not just spousal abuse. Over time, it disconnects you from your own instincts. I am also aware that women can be abusers as well. For a while, I asked trusted people if I had heard right; my perception was almost destroyed by gaslighting. Don’t water gaslighting down; it is evil, and it is abuse. Journal everything, or record for your mental health’s sake.

But truth does not need manipulation.
Truth can stand in the light.

Sacred Pause

Place your hand over your heart.

Say silently:
“What I experienced was real.”

Prayer

God of Truth,
Return my trust in my own discernment.
Shine Your light where lies once lived.
Amen.
