Octopus Mind: God Sees the Shield-Bearers

Day’s Journey — Micro Devotional

Scripture Sidebars

“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He shall sustain you.”
Psalm 55:22

“He alone is my rock and my salvation;
He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.”
Psalm 62:2

Reflection

Some stayed not because they were weak,
but because they were protecting someone more vulnerable.

There were moments when the intervention had to pause—
not to defend the abuser,
but to shield the abused from greater harm.

Children endure to keep siblings together.
Adults remain to protect stepchildren, grandchildren, or dependents.
who might suffer worse if separated.

This is not failure.
This is sacrificial love in a broken system.

Psalm 55 permitted me to release what was crushing me.
Psalm 62 reminded me that even while standing guard,
God was standing with me.

God does not condemn survival.
He sees the shield-bearers.
He records the cost.
And when the shield grows heavy,
He invites us to lay it down at His feet.

Sacred Pause

Soften your shoulders.
Unclench your hands.

Whisper:
“God, You carried me when I could not carry myself.”

Prayer of Protection

Faithful Father,
I cast every burden I carried in silence onto You.
Sustain me now, as You promised.

Be my rock when I feel unsteady.
Be my refuge when I am weary.
Surround me and those I love with Your protection.

Guard the children.
Guard the vulnerable.
Guard those who stood as shields when no one else would.

Silence every voice of accusation.
Disarm every plan meant for harm.
Send Your watchmen—those who pray, speak truth, and act with wisdom.

I choose rest over vigilance.
Trust over fear.
You alone are my salvation.

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,
Amen.
