Quiet Prayer
Father,
Please meet me in the places where I feel stuck.
When old memories rise and try to pull me back into hurt, remind me that You are making me new.
Give me a new heart, a new Spirit, and a new song.
In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Reflection
Sometimes we get stuck in places no one else can see.
We may smile, go to school, do our work, answer questions, and act like everything is fine. But inside, our hearts can feel like they are standing in a swamp.
A swamp of sorrow.
A swamp of old memories.
A swamp of rejection, regret, anger, embarrassment, loneliness, or shame.

Hippii the Hippo understood that kind of swamp.
One day, Joppa and Millo noticed Hippii was missing. He had not come to play. He had not come to the pasture. He had not come to sit with his friends.
So Joppa and Millo went looking for him.
They found him down in the swamp, standing in the mud, looking tired and sad.
“Hippii,” Joppa called gently, “why are you down there?”
Hippii looked at the muddy water and said, “I got stuck.”
Millo fluttered closer. “Stuck in the mud?”

Hippii shook his head.
“No,” he whispered. “Stuck in my memories.”
Then Hippii reached into the swamp and pulled up a tangled vine.
“This one says, Remember when they laughed at you?“
He pulled up another.
“This one says, Remember when you felt left out?“
Then another.
“This one says, Remember when you failed?“
Then another.
“This one says, Nothing will ever change.“
The more Hippii listened to those memories, the heavier his heart became. The mud seemed deeper. The vines wrapped tighter. The swamp began to feel like home, even though it was hurting him.
That can happen to us, too.
Old wounds can become familiar.
Bitterness can feel like protection.
Sadness can feel like identity.
Anger can feel easier than healing.
Shame can make us believe we belong in the mud.
But Joppa looked at Hippii and said, “Those memories may be real, but they are not your master.”
Millo nodded. “And they do not get to tell you who you are.”
Hippii’s eyes filled with tears.
“But how do I get out?” he asked. “I have been here so long.”
Joppa stepped closer and said, “God gives new hearts.”
Millo chirped softly, “That is the good news. God does not just tell us to try harder. He gives us His Spirit. He can make what is hard become tender again. He can make what is bitter become clean again.”
Hippii looked down at the swamp.
“But what about all these memories?”
Joppa answered, “You can bring them to God. You do not have to pretend they did not happen. But you also do not have to keep living inside them.”
That is the difference between healing and hiding.
Healing does not say, It never hurt.
Healing says, God is greater than what hurt me.
Healing does not say, I never got stuck.
Healing says, The Lord can lift me out.
Healing does not say, I am strong enough by myself.
Healing says that God is good and that He can give me a new heart.

So right there in the swamp, Hippii began to pray.
He gave God the memory of being laughed at.
He gave God the memory of being left out.
He gave God the anger that had grown in the mud.
He gave God the lie, saying, “This is just who I am now.“
And slowly, the vines began to loosen.
The mud no longer felt as powerful.
Hippii took one step.
Then another.
Then another.
Joppa and Millo stayed close as he walked out of the swamp and onto dry ground.
The air felt fresh.
The ground felt firm.
The sky looked brighter than before.
Hippii took a deep breath and whispered, “I thought the swamp was where I belonged.”
Joppa smiled gently.
“No, Hippii. God’s Love is where you belong.”
And Millo added, “The swamp may have been part of your story, but it is not your home.”
Sacred Pause
Take a slow breath.
Ask the Lord gently:
What old memory keeps pulling me back into the swamp?
What lies have I believed about myself because of what happened?
Where do I need God to give me a new heart?
What new song is He teaching me to sing?
Prayer of Repentance and Renewal
Father,
I confess that sometimes I get stuck in old memories.
I replay what hurt me.
I rehearse what people said.
I remember who left, who laughed, who ignored me, and who made me feel small.
Forgive me for letting bitterness grow in the swamp.
Forgive me for believing lies more than Your truth.
Forgive me for making pain my home when You are calling me into a new life.
Lord, lift me out of the mud and mire.
Untangle the bitter vines around my heart.
Remove my heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh.
Put Your Spirit within me.
Help me remember what happened without living there.
Help me tell the truth without becoming bitter.
Help me grieve without giving up.
Help me forgive without pretending.
Help me walk out of the swamp and into Your Love.
Give me a new song.
A song of mercy.
A song of healing.
A song of courage.
A song of new beginnings.
Thank You for not leaving me stuck.
Thank You for making me new.
In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Today’s Gentle Reminder
The swamp may be part of your story,
But it is not your home.
God can lift you out.
God can give you a new heart.
God can teach you a new song.
You are not stuck forever.
In Christ, new life has already begun.
