Day’s Journey Reflection
Scripture Anchor:
“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”
— Proverbs 13:20
There is a kind of wisdom that comes with age, but age alone does not make a person wise.
Some people grow older and softer before the LORD. Others grow older and harder. Some learn from their mistakes, while others keep walking the same painful roads, refusing the instruction that could have spared them harm.
Wisdom is not only the knowledge of what is right. Wisdom is the grace to pause, listen, and obey before one small step becomes a dangerous path.
The book of Proverbs reminds us that wisdom still calls out. She still lifts her voice to those willing to listen. She warns us before foolishness steals our peace. She teaches us to slow down before pride, anger, fear, or impulse leads us away from the path of life.
And wisdom often comes through companionship.
“Walk with the wise and become wise.”
Who we walk with matters.
Who we listen to matters.
Who we allow to influence our thoughts, choices, and direction matters.
A wise companion does not always flatter us. Sometimes a wise companion gently corrects us, prays with us, reminds us of truth, and helps us return to the way of the LORD. Wisdom is a gift, but so are the people God sends to help keep us steady.
Now that I am older, I do not want to assume I have arrived. I still seek Wisdom like a companion. I still need the LORD to guide me, correct me, strengthen me, and surround me with those who Love truth more than approval.
May Wisdom walk with me.
May Prudence slow me down.
May Patience steady my steps.
May Gentleness soften my words.
May Self-Control guard my choices.
May Love lead my heart.
May Empathy open my eyes.
May Mercy cover my responses.
May Compassion keep me tender.
And may the LORD keep my loved ones and me in the ways of Jesus Christ.
Sacred Pause
Lord, who am I walking with?
Are the voices around me leading me closer to You, or away from Your wisdom?
Prayer of Repentance and Wisdom
Heavenly Father,
I come before You in the Name of Jesus Christ. Forgive me for the times I have walked with foolishness, listened to voices that did not honor You, or ignored wisdom when You lovingly placed it before me.
Forgive me for the moments I moved too quickly, spoke too sharply, or trusted my own understanding instead of seeking Your counsel.
Lord, surround me with wise companions. Place people in my life who help me walk in truth, humility, Love, and obedience. Teach me to recognize wisdom when it speaks, and give me the courage to follow it.
Let Wisdom, Prudence, Patience, Gentleness, Self-Control, Love, Empathy, Mercy, and Compassion guide my steps.
Keep my loved ones and me on the path of life. Guard us from foolishness, harm, pride, and distraction.
May we walk with the wise, become wise, and remain close to Jesus.
