The Greatest Is Love
Lord Jesus, help us lay down striving, division, and pride. Teach us to desire the gifts You give, but never above the Love You command. Amen.

When Paul spoke to the Corinthians about spiritual gifts, he did not deny that the gifts were important.

Paul spoke of prophecy. He spoke of tongues. He spoke of knowledge. He spoke of faith. But then he pointed them to something greater.

Love.

The church in Corinth had gifts, but they also had division. They had spiritual activity, but they still needed spiritual maturity. Paul reminded them that gifts without Love become noise.

Today, there is still so much division, even within the church. People argue over positions, platforms, pulpits, titles, and recognition. Even now, women are fighting for a place in the pulpit, and many are asking why this has become so important. I understand the ache behind that question.

There was a time when I mourned because I felt the gifts the LORD placed in me were hindered within the church. I wanted to serve. I wanted to be received. I wanted what God had placed in me to have room to breathe. Eventually, those things weren’t as important to me anymore. The LORD began to heal something deeper in me.

He showed me that my gifts were never meant to become my identity. They were never meant to become a place of striving, bitterness, or competition. They were given to serve Him and to Love others.

Now, it is not that the gifts are unimportant. They still matter because God gave them. But they are no longer the most important thing.

Love is.

Not Love in my own strength. Not Love that comes from being accepted, promoted, recognized, or given a place. But Love that comes from God’s perfect Love working in me.

The kind of Love that can serve without needing applause. Love that can speak truth without pride.
The kind of Love that can step back without resentment. Love that can still bless when misunderstood. The kind of Love that does not make ministry about being seen, but about making Jesus known.

Paul wrote:

“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and Love. But the greatest of these is Love.”
— 1 Corinthians 13:13

That is where the LORD keeps bringing me back. Faith matters, Hope matters, Love matters.
gifts matter, calling matters.

But without Love, even the most powerful gift loses its sound.

I do not want to fight for a platform and lose the heart of Christ. I do not want to win an argument and grieve the Spirit. I do not want to be so focused on whether my gift is received by people that I forget to offer it back to the One who gave it.

Jesus is Love.

And if He chooses to use me in hidden places, let me Love there.

If he chooses to use me outside the walls, let me Love there.

If He chooses to use my writing, my prayers, my stories, my tears, and my testimony, let me Love there.

The greatest is not the pulpit.

The greatest is Love.

And wherever Love obeys Jesus, ministry is already happening.

Sacred Pause

Have I desired a place more than I desired Love?

Have I allowed rejection, limitation, or misunderstanding to make my heart bitter?

Where is Jesus asking me to serve in Love, even if it looks different from what I expected?

Prayer of Repentance

Lord Jesus,

Forgive me for the times I desired recognition more than Love. Forgive me for the times I allowed hurt, rejection, or disappointment to turn into striving, bitterness, or comparison.

Forgive your church for division, pride, competition, and for using gifts without Love. Forgive us for the times we have hindered one another instead of honoring what You placed in each person for Your glory.

Teach us to walk in Love. Teach us to serve without selfish ambition. Teach us to honor the gifts You give without making them greater than You.

Let Your perfect Love purify our motives.

Closing Prayer

Father God,

Let Your church return to Love. Let every gift be surrendered to You. Let every calling be purified by humility. Let every voice, every servant, every leader, every hidden prayer warrior, and every wounded vessel be covered in the Love of Christ.

Use us where You desire. Lead us how You desire. Keep us from striving for place while missing Your presence.

May our lives proclaim Jesus.

And may Love remain the greatest.
