Day’s Journey—Today
When Mourning Meets the Morning
By Lisa Rene Delgado
“Do not fear, for I am with you.” —Isaiah 41:10
Opening Prayer
Father, as I wake and rub my weary eyes, help me become still before You. Before the day’s concerns gather around me, remind me that You are here. Let my mourning meet Your comfort, and let Your joy strengthen me for Today. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Some mornings, our eyes open before our hearts feel ready.
The body rises, but sorrow lingers. Responsibilities wait, questions remain unanswered, and memories arrive before our feet touch the floor.
Into that tender place, the Lord speaks:
“Do not fear, for I am with you.”
His presence gives us somewhere to bring everything we carry. We do not have to find our strength before coming to Him. He promises to strengthen, help, and uphold us (Isaiah 41:10).
Today, as I rub my weary eyes, this is my prayer:
Let the mourning bring me into the joy of the Lord.
There can be tears in that surrender. There can be a trembling voice and a heart still learning to rest. The joy of the Lord can sustain us while grief is present. We belong to Him, and His faithfulness remains steady through every changing emotion.
“The joy of the LORD is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10).
I need that strength for Today—for the conversation ahead, the work before me, and the quiet moments when my thoughts begin to wander toward fear.
Let the peace of Christ rule in my heart (Colossians 3:15). As anxious thoughts arise, help me recognize them and bring them before Jesus. Teach me to examine what I believe in the light of Your truth and bring my thoughts into obedience to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Let grace and mercy walk beside me. Your mercies are new this morning, even when I wake feeling weary from yesterday (Lamentations 3:22–23).
Let wisdom and understanding be like sisters showing me the way. Give me a teachable heart and the patience to listen before I move (Proverbs 7:4).
Let hope burst forth like the morning sun. As daylight reaches into the room, remind me that Your Love reaches into the places I cannot yet explain. Fill me with joy and peace as I trust You so that hope may overflow through the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13).
I can begin this day with a simple confession:
Lord, You are my God, and I trust You.
Sacred Pause
Take a slow breath. Let your shoulders settle.
What are you carrying into this morning?
Bring it honestly before the Lord. Then rest for a moment in His promise:
“I am with you.” —Isaiah 41:10
Prayer of Repentance and Trust
Father, forgive me for the ways I have sinned in thought, word, and action. Where I have clung to resentment or tried to control what belongs in Your hands, lead me to repentance. Help me receive Your forgiveness and extend mercy to others.
Meet my weariness with compassion. Govern my responses by Your Spirit, guide my thoughts with Your truth, and strengthen me to walk faithfully through Today. Let Your peace settle within me, and Your hope rise again.
You are my God, and I trust You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Soli Deo Gloria.
