Still Waters
Scripture:
“He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.”
— Psalm 23:2–3
Reflection:
The journey quiets here.
After the valleys, the storms, the long nights of wondering if I would ever find peace again —
I have arrived beside still waters.
But peace was not a place I found;
it was a Person who found me.
The Shepherd did not rush me to this rest.
He led me gently, step by step,
until my striving gave way to surrender.
The still waters were not a reward for doing everything right —
they were mercy for a soul that had been running too long.
Here, I laid down the burdens I’ve carried —
the need to prove, to please, to perform.
I listen to the soft rippling of His voice in the current,
the sound of grace washing over the fragments of my heart.
Stillness is not the absence of movement;
it is the presence of perfect trust.
It is the quiet knowing that I am held,
that even when I do nothing, I am loved completely.
And in that stillness, my soul remembers its song again.
Repentance:
LORD, forgive me for the times I’ve hurried past Your rest.
Forgive me for filling the silence with my own noise,
for trying to fix what You were healing.
Teach me to lie down when You say, “Rest,”
and to drink deeply from the waters You have prepared for me.
Journal Prompt:
Where do you feel God inviting you to rest right now?
What burdens or fears have kept you from stillness?
Write about what it means to be restored — not by your effort, but by His grace.
Sacred Pause:
Pause here.
Breathe in the calm of His presence.
Let the rippling of the living water quiet your mind.
The Shepherd is here, and His peace is enough.
Interpretation:
Still waters are not always far away.
They rise within the soul that has learned to stop running.
The Shepherd does not lead us to escape life —
He leads us to see His peace within it.
Here, we learn that rest is not the end of the journey —
it’s where the heart learns to trust the pace of God.
Anchor Scripture:
“In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and trust shall be your strength.”
— Isaiah 30:15
Closing Prayer — Still Waters:
O Lord,
You have led me beside waters I could not find on my own.
Where fear once flowed, now peace runs deep.
You quiet my soul, not with demand, but with delight.
I no longer need to run or strive;
I only need to rest in Your care.
You are the Shepherd who restores,
who takes the worn and makes them whole again.
Let these still waters wash through my thoughts,
cleansing away every anxious whisper.
Let them flow through my heart,
softening what has grown weary and hard.
Here, in Your presence, I find what I’ve been searching for —
the holy rhythm of rest.
Teach me to return to this place often,
to draw from the stream of Your peace
until my life reflects the calm of Your Spirit.
I am Yours, Lord,
and I am home beside Your still waters. In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
