The True Light Came Into My Darkness
“The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5
When I was a child, Christmas was not a season of joy.
It was not laughter around a warm table.
We were not singing “Joy to the World” when my little world was falling apart.
It was not the comfort of a family gathered in Love and peace.
Christmas, for me, was a time of distress.
Alcohol-driven fights.
Father’s leaving, mother’s crying.
Tears are falling because of the loss of innocence.
Siblings hiding—each longing for safety
that never came.
The world around me sparkled with lights,
but inside our home, darkness hung thick in the air.
I wondered why Santa never visited me.
Why he never brought the one gift my heart ached for—
a place of safety,
a home of our own,
a moment of peace.
Children around the world carry the same ache—
quiet, hidden, unnoticed.
Their cries do not make the Christmas songs,
but heaven hears them.
Heaven knows them.
Heaven remembers.
What I did not know then
is what I know now with clarity:
The gift I longed for
was never in Santa’s hands.
It was in God’s heart.
The Light Came Where I Lived
Jesus did not come
to perfect families
or peaceful homes
or cheerful celebrations.
He came into a world not unlike mine:
a world of danger, fear, chaos,
father’s threatening with weapons, crying mothers,
children hiding, and homes splintered by sin.
He came into the darkness
—not to judge the people trapped in it—
but to shine.
He came for children like me.
He came for homes like mine.
He came for nights like those nights—
when fear sat heavier than hope.
This is the wonder of the revelation:
Christ Himself
is the Christmas I always longed for.
Not a man in a red suit.
Not wrapped gifts.
Not a moment of escape.
He is the Light
that does not flicker when the house shakes.
He is the Peace
that does not vanish when adults fall apart.
He is the Safety
that does not disappear in the morning.
He is the Home
I never had as a child—
and the Home I have now, forever.
A Revelation Wrapped in Swaddling Cloth
Santa never came to my house.
But Jesus did.
Not with toys.
But with truth.
Not with gifts.
But with glory.
Not with temporary cheer.
But with eternal light.
The Child in the manger
grew into the Man who said,
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
And suddenly, the story of my childhood
makes sense in the light of His presence:
- He was there when I hid.
- He was there when fear was loud.
- He was there when my heart broke.
- He was there, protecting the pieces
until He could put them back together.
The True Light came into my world—
and the darkness did not overcome it.
Sacred Pause — “Shine in Me.”
Place your hand over your heart.
Let the breath settle softly.
Whisper gently:
“Jesus, You are the Light that found me.”
Let Him shine into the memories
you once hid from yourself.
Let Him replace fear with peace,
loneliness with presence,
trauma with truth,
darkness with light.
You do not stand in that childhood house anymore—
but Christ stands with you in this moment,
bringing light to every shadow that remains.
Prayer of Repentance
Lord Jesus,
Forgive me for the years I believed
I was alone in my childhood darkness.
Forgive me for seeking comfort in places that could not heal me,
and for misunderstanding who You truly are.
Wash me from the lies I believed about myself,
about Love, and about You.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a right Spirit within me.
Thank You for being the True Light—
The Light that found me, rescued me,
carried me, and now shines through me.
Redeem every memory. Restore every wound.
And let Your Light rise in me in ways that transform others
who are still waiting for hope.
Rise, Mighty Warrior, and deliver those who are crying for the abused and oppressed, and deliver the children from the hands of the wicked.
In Your holy name, Soli Deo Gloria, Amen.
