Today

Before God ever spoke, Let there be,” the story opens with a world without form and void—a deep chaos waiting under the hovering presence of the Spirit (Genesis 1). Then God spoke, and with His Word came light, separation, boundaries, rhythm, purpose—not only creation, but order.

As Mr. Martinez said, when God created everything, He also gave it order—each thing in its ordained place. And since the beginning, humanity has wrestled for what was never ours to hold: control. We reach for the throne with anxious hands, and when we do, the consequence is always some version of the same thing: chaos.

That’s how it happens in a house, too. When the foundation is cracked by pride, the whole structure begins to shift—quietly at first. Subtle. Hard to trace. We don’t always see where the damage began because pride blinds us, and fear fuels it. We tighten our grip, we push harder, we try to force outcomes—yet the harder we clutch, the more unsettled things become.

But if God is the God of order, then I choose to trust Him in my classroom. Not because I am ignoring wisdom or structure—but because I am acknowledging the One who authors wisdom and structure. He doesn’t just bring order—He is the Teacher. And when He teaches, He gives what no human striving can manufacture: knowledge and understanding. (Ecclesiastes 12 reminds us that the end of all our learning is reverence—”Fear God and keep His commandments.”)

Prayer for Stillness, Order, and Understanding (Genesis 1; Ecclesiastes 12)

LORD God,
In the beginning, You spoke into chaos and brought forth order. You separated light from darkness, You set boundaries, You established rhythm, and everything came into its ordained place by Your Word.

Forgive us for the pride that reaches for control—
for the fear that makes us grasp, manage, and force outcomes as though we are God. Forgive us for trying to rule what You have already set in place. Forgive us for the cracks pride has placed in our foundation—seen and unseen.

Holy Spirit, hover over this classroom as You hovered over the deep.
Speak Your peace into anxious hearts.
Bring stillness to restless bodies.
Bring clarity where there is confusion.
Bring unity where there is tension.

LORD, You are the Teacher.
So we ask: give us eyes to see, ears to hear, and the gift of knowledge and understanding.
Teach us how to lead without striving, how to correct with gentleness, how to be firm without anger, and how to build order without control.

Let Your wisdom be present in every lesson,
Your peace in every transition,
And Your Love in every correction.

We choose to trust the God of order today.
We surrender our need to control, and we receive Your guidance.

In Jesus’ Name, amen.
