Today: When Everyone Scatters

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6

What kind of Love is it when everyone scatters at the strike of adversity? Perhaps it is human Love showing its limits. Many have loved with words, yet when trials came, their actions spoke louder than their promises. Suffering has a way of revealing what kind of Love was truly there. Some care, yet still flee. Some mean well, yet do not remain. Some speak loyalty, yet scatter when the cost grows heavy.

And perhaps that is why the Love of Christ is unlike every other love.

He did not scatter.

When sin was laid bare, He stayed.
When shame rose like a flood, He stayed.
When the punishment I deserved had to be borne by someone, He took it upon Himself.

“We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.”

Would I have remained if I had stood among the disciples? Shamefully, I think I, too, might have fled. For I know my own weakness. I know the trembling places in the human heart. But this is the mercy: Jesus already knew who would leave Him, and He still loved them. He already knew the sheep would scatter, and He still chose the cross.

So when everyone else falls away, the soul learns something eternal: there is One who stands. One who does not abandon. One who bears what no other can bear. One whose Love remains when every other Love has reached its limit.

Sacred Pause

Sit quietly for a moment.

Where have you been wounded by Love that did not remain?
Where have you seen your own weakness reflected in the scattering of others?
And where is the Lord inviting you to rest again in the Love that did not run?

A prayer of repentance and renewal

Lord Jesus,
Forgive me for the times I have loved only in word and not in costly truth. Forgive me for the times fear, self-protection, or weakness made me step back when Love was needed most. Forgive me for expecting perfect steadfastness from people who, like me, are dust and in need of grace.

Thank You that where all of us have gone astray, You did not turn away. Thank You that when the sheep scattered, You remained. Thank You that You bore my sin, my shame, my punishment, and my wandering as Your own.

Teach me not to harden my heart in disappointment. Teach me to grieve human weakness honestly, but to anchor my soul in Your faithfulness. And where my own love has been shallow, fearful, or unsteady, deepen it by Your Spirit. Make me truthful, humble, and willing to remain where You call me to remain.

In Jesus’ Name, amen.

When every other Love reaches its limit, the Love of Christ still stands.
