Joppa and Friends: Spreading the Gospel

Preacher Porky Pine and the Good News That Grew

Children’s Day’s Journey

Memory Verse:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
— Romans 10:15

One bright afternoon, Preacher Porky Pine sat on a little stump near the meadow path.

His tiny Bible rested in his lap.
His quills drooped a little.
His nose pointed toward the grass.

Joppa the Ostrich noticed right away.

She came walking over with Millo, the little bird, perched on her shoulder. Soon, Mahle the spotted Lamb, Hippii the Hippo, and Wally the Warthog joined them, too.

Joppa tilted her head gently.

“Porky Pine,” she asked, “why do you look so sad Today?”

Porky sighed.

“I keep sharing the Good News,” he said, “but sometimes I wonder if anyone is listening. I preach about the Lion’s Love. I tell others that Jesus brings freedom. But what if my words just float away like leaves in the wind?”

Millo chirped softly. “Oh, Porky.”

Mahle stepped closer. “Sometimes I feel like that too when I try to tell others what the Lion has done for me.”

Hippii nodded. “And sometimes I wonder if my story matters at all.”

Wally sat down beside Porky Pine. “Maybe you need some encouragement, friend.”

Porky looked at the ground.

“What if the seed of the Good News never stays anywhere?” he asked.

Just then, Rafi-Owl flew down from a branch overhead and landed nearby.

“A seed does not need to stay in your hand to grow,” Rafi-Owl said wisely. “Sometimes the wind carries it exactly where it needs to go.”

Porky blinked.

“The wind?” he asked.

“Yes,” said Rafi-Owl. “The Lord knows where each seed must land.”

Joppa smiled. “Your job is to share the Good News.”

Millo fluttered his wings. “The Lord’s job is to make it grow.”

Porky Pine lifted his little Bible. “Do you really think so?”

Before anyone could answer, they heard voices coming down the meadow path.

A young rabbit hopped forward first.

Her name was Tansy. She had soft brown fur and bright eyes.

Behind her came a shy little turtle named Bram, moving carefully but steadily. Then came Lulu the Lamb, with fluffy wool and a tender face, and Pip the Prairie Pup, whose tail wagged nervously as he walked.

They all stopped in front of Porky Pine.

Porky looked surprised.

“Hello,” he said. “Can I help you?”

Tansy smiled.

“We came because of your message,” she said.

Porky’s ears perked up. “My message?”

Bram nodded slowly. “One day, I heard you say that the Lion gives freedom.”

Lulu added, “I heard you say we do not have to carry heavy burdens forever.”

Pip looked down, then back up again. “And I heard you say that Jesus loves us and calls us near.”

Porky’s little eyes widened.

“You heard that?” he asked.

“Yes,” said Tansy. “I was hiding behind the berry bushes when you preached.”

“I was near the pond,” said Bram.

“I was by the fence,” said Lulu.

“And I was on the path,” Pip said. “I did not say anything then, but I remembered your words.”

Porky Pine looked at Joppa and the others.

The gang smiled back at him.

Millo chirped happily. “See? The seed landed!”

Porky’s voice grew quiet.

“I thought no one was listening.”

Rafi-Owl’s eyes warmed. “Sometimes hearts are listening even when mouths stay silent.”

Joppa nodded. “You may not always see where the Good News lands.”

Mahle smiled softly. “But the Lord does.”

Hippii added, “And He knows how to grow it.”

Wally grinned. “That is very good news for a preacher.”

Everyone laughed.

Then Tansy stepped forward again.

“Can you tell us more about the Lion?” she asked.

Bram nodded. “I want to know Him better.”

Lulu’s voice was gentle. “I want to know if He would Love someone like me.”

Pip swallowed hard. “And I want to know if He can help me with my fears.”

Porky Pine stood a little taller on his stump.

This time, his quills did not feel sharp.

They felt steady.

“Yes,” he said with a smile. “I would Love to tell you more.”

So the gang gathered close.

Joppa stood nearby with her brave, kind eyes.
Millo perched happily on the stump.
Mahle sat in the grass, peaceful and loved.
Hippii listened from the edge of the pond.
Wally passed around apples from his basket.
Rafi-Owl watched from above with wise delight.

And Preacher Porky Pine shared the Good News again:

“The Lion loves us.
He calls us near.
He carries our burdens.
He gives us freedom.
And everyone who comes to Him will find Love and life.”

The meadow grew very still.

It was the kind of stillness that happens when truth settles into waiting hearts.

And Porky Pine learned something beautiful that day:

The Good News is never wasted.
The seed is never forgotten.
And when the Lord sends it out, it lands where He intends.

Little Lesson

Sometimes we may feel discouraged when we share about Jesus.

We may wonder:

“Is anyone listening?”
“Does my story matter?”
“Did the seed of the Good News just blow away?”

But God knows where every seed lands.

Our job is to share His Love.
God’s job is to make it grow.

And sometimes hearts listen quietly even when we do not see it.

Reflection Question

Have you ever told someone about Jesus or shown His Love through kindness?

How can you keep sharing the Good News, even if you do not see the results right away?

Prayer of Repentance and Encouragement

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for the Good News of Your Love.

Please forgive me for the times I become discouraged, give up too quickly, or forget that You are the One who makes the seed grow.

Help me keep sharing Your Love with kindness and joy. Help me trust You with every seed I plant.

Thank You for Preacher Porky Pine.
Thank You for Joppa and friends.
Thank You for the newcomers whose hearts were touched by the Good News.

Help me remember that no act of Love, no word of truth, and no seed of the Gospel is wasted in Your hands.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
