I remember a time when I waited patiently for the mailman to arrive so I could run outside and see if I had anything besides junk mail—especially a letter from the one I loved at the time.
When I did receive one, I held on to every word. With my finger, I followed every curve of his pen. I would close my eyes and imagine how deep his thoughts must have run when he wrote back to me. He was a deep thinker, and sometimes, as he would say, he would get stuck in his head.
I kept the few letters I received, not as tokens, but as something that helped me keep breathing when life became hard, or when I felt alone and unloved.
Now we no longer have to wait painstakingly for the mailman to arrive. Emails come instantly. In moments that span space and time, we can feel close to someone we Love. I have archived some of those messages too, as reminders that I have been cared for.
Yet I know this: if I received a handwritten letter in the mail Today, it would still mean as much to me as it did in those earlier days.
The Bible was written long ago, over many generations, by many hands, yet breathed from the heart of God. It is His Love letter to us. A letter written out of holy longing, mercy, truth, and everlasting Love.
As I continue walking through healing, I am beginning to recognize that same longing in my own heart—not only the longing to be loved, but the longing God has for His children to return to Him.
It is beautiful to know this kind of Love exists, and now I know the value of waiting.
But I do not think I would have known it this deeply if I had rushed into another relationship without first walking through the healing process. I might have missed the heart of God. I might have missed the way He sent help during the hardest times of my life. For that, I am truly grateful to the Lord.
There were times I wondered if true Love really existed, especially when I saw the kindness and respect between a man and his wife. I would notice how gently he spoke to her, how tender his words were, how patient his heart seemed.
That kind of Love does not withhold protection, kindness, or provision for the needs of the soul.
Jesus said,
“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”
—Matthew 5:5
The self-control of a meek man is more masculine than the force of a man who intimidates, controls, or discards another person. Meekness is not weakness. It is a strength surrendered to God.
There was a time I longed for this kind of Love, even when Love Himself stood right in front of me.
Every stroke of the pen had already been written.
Not with ink, but with blood.
Not on paper, but on a cross.
A blood-stained Love letter, nailed there for His beloved over two thousand years ago.
And still, He waits for us to read it.
Sacred Pause
Have I been looking for Love in places that cannot heal me?
Have I allowed the Lord’s Love letter to speak to the wounded places in my heart?
Have I rushed past healing because I was afraid of being alone?
Prayer of Surrender
Lord Jesus,
Thank You for loving me with a Love that does not discard, manipulate, intimidate, or abandon. Thank You for writing Your Love across the pages of Scripture and sealing it with Your blood on the cross.
Forgive me for the times I have searched for Love apart from You. Forgive me for holding on to words from people more tightly than I have held on to Your Word. Forgive me for doubting Your Love when my heart was wounded, lonely, or afraid.
Teach me to receive Your Love slowly, honestly, and deeply. Heal the places in me that have confused attention with Love, control with protection, or longing with truth.
Make my heart meek before You. Help me wait without bitterness, heal without rushing, and trust without fear.
Thank You for the Love letter You have already written to me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
